New York Under Fear

David Berkowitz, known as the “Son of Sam,” committed a series of shootings in New York City during 1976 and 1977. He ultimately pleaded guilty to six murders and multiple attempted murders.

The Investigation

The case became one of the largest manhunts in New York history. Investigators used witness statements, ballistic evidence, vehicle records, and ultimately a parking-ticket lead that helped identify Berkowitz.

Conviction

Berkowitz pleaded guilty in 1978 and received multiple consecutive life sentences.
