Jaded Evidence | Weekend Update, October 10–11, 2026
Our weekend casewatch identifies three major family-violence death investigations and important developments in cases we follow. Information below is attributed to reporting and records available through October 11; charges, preliminary classifications, and investigative theories are not findings of guilt.
Erie, Pennsylvania: Eight victims in reported family shooting
According to an October 10 Associated Press report citing Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah, eight people, including children and a pregnant woman, were fatally shot Friday. Police say the suspected gunman also died by suicide. Early reports differ on the victims’ exact family relationships, so official identifications should control as they are released. Investigators are examining the motive and evidence, including phones. The reported police account supports describing this as a suspected familicide/mass killing, but a definitive motive has not been established.

Christa Pike: Returned to prison after hospitalization
Attorneys for Christa Pike said Saturday that she had been discharged from the hospital and returned to Tennessee prison custody following the unsuccessful September 30 execution attempt. They said she will continue receiving medical care. The precise medical course, mechanism of the failed execution and long-term prognosis should not be presented as settled without official records.

Faith Hedgepeth: Medical examiner and evidence-handling testimony
On October 9, medical examiner Dr. Lauren Scott testified that Hedgepeth died from blunt-force trauma to the head and that the precise time of death could not be determined scientifically. Defense counsel questioned witnesses about a missing bloodstain swab and other items that were not tested. These issues were raised in sworn testimony; they do not by themselves establish evidence tampering or determine the defendant’s guilt.

Douglas, Georgia: Five family deaths in an apparent domestic murder-suicide
Douglas police say five family members died after an active-shooter call on October 9. Four adults were found dead inside the residence, and a fifth victim later died at a hospital. Authorities have described the incident as an apparent murder-suicide and said a victim contacted police about a domestic issue involving her husband shortly before the shooting. Identities, roles, motive, autopsy findings, and the final classification remain pending.

Authorities had not publicly released the identities, mechanism, motive, or final cause-and-manner findings as of the October 11 review.
